At Woodside Academy in London, we recently completed a major energy-efficient lighting upgrade, installing 717 new LED luminaires across the campus. This project not only had cost savings and environmental benefits but transformed the lighting quality throughout the school delivering long term benefits to students and staff.
At Woodside Academy, in the main hall, we installed dimmable Codi luminaires and redesigned the switching system. This allows staff to adapt the lighting environment for assemblies, exams, and presentations, giving the school greater control over its multi-use space.
This change to the hall as well as the classrooms has provided the school with consistent, glare-free lighting that reduces eye strain and enhances the concentration of students.
A well-lit classroom helps students stay focused, boosts engagement, and supports teachers in delivering lessons effectively. Outdated or inefficient lighting can create dim, uncomfortable environments that hinder focus as well as drain budgets and increase maintenance demands. We are therefore very pleased with the impact we have had on the environment at the school.
The project also had a significant budget impact. The LED upgrade will not only reduce the school’s carbon footprint but also offer long-term maintenance savings.
The investment is equivalent to the cost of hiring two additional staff members or purchasing multiple new laptops, making this an impactful, cost-effective choice. This change will free up budget for the school to spend on something the students need and could really benefit from.
The team lead on the project said:
“We are an all-through special school and our pupils and staff noticed and commented upon the improved lighting conditions immediately.”
The staff at Woodside added:
“All in all, we received a high-quality, professional, and responsive service from EES, and we are delighted with the product and the cost savings we will gain.”
